Susan Opie is an American sculptor best known for her large-scale bronze sculptures of insects, aquatic life, and other animals. She began casting her own bronzes in 1980 and later established a private foundry where she developed her distinctive style. Her work combines whimsy, movement, and careful observation of the natural world, often using oversized insects and creatures to inspire appreciation for the environment. Opie’s sculptures have been exhibited throughout the United States and are included in collections such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and the James A. Michener Art Museum.
